Magento 2 Frontend Training by Jisse Reitsma

Magento Master 2017 Jisse Reitsma

Being part two of a two-day series, this one-day training is led by Magento Master Jisse Reitsma of Yireo. Jisse is the founder of Yireo, has been training Magento developers for years and has been focusing on Magento 2 since the beginning. For many Magento 1 developers, embracing concepts like composer and Dependency Injection is doable, especially when you have experience with Laravel. However, the JavaScript part of Magento 2 is a different ballgame: Forget about jQuery and think bigger. RequireJS is used to add dependency injection and management in the frontend, as to load libraries based on the AMD standard. And each of those AMD libraries behaves as a Knockout-driven JS component to integrate in all the other parts of the frontend. It is overwhelming and therefore a good training is a solid (and easy) investment. While you are at it, you can also ask Jisse why he is called Knockout Jisse.

This part focusses on the JavaScript part of Magento 2.

Topics include:

  • The modern state of JavaScript
  • Why jQuery is not wonderful
  • RequireJS configuration in Magento
  • KnockoutJS configuration in Magento
  • Calling for JS components with automatic function calling
  • RequireJS mixins
  • Creating your own Knockout observables
  • Adding a step in the checkout
  • Punching holes in Full Page Cache using JS lazyloading
  • UIComponents in backend and frontend

Please note that the more you dive into the JavaScript part, the more you will need to understand the other theming parts as well (XML layout, PHTML templates) and especially how they behave differently in Magento 2. If you are not rock-solid at this, attending the first day of this Magento 2 Frontend Training (led by Jisse Reitsma too) might be a good choice.

This is a training, not a workshop. The training does not include exercises for attendees. Afterwards, every attendee is going to receive the code which will be developed during the training.

The Training starts on September 7th at 09:30 a.m. ends at 5:00 p.m. There is going to be a lunch break and your lunch is included in the ticket price.
